Dr. James Steven Shockey ‘74

Retired Partner and Surgeon of Commonwealth Orthopaedic Surgery

Steve Shockey was initiated into the Beta-Nu Chapter of Kappa Sigma in 1974. After Steve graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science,he continued with his education, graduating with a Doctorate of Medicine in 1982. Upon graduating from Medical School, Steve entered his surgical internship at Marshall University in 1982, General Surgery Residency at the University of Louisville in 1983 and Orthopaedic Residency in 1984, wherehe was named Chief Resident in 1987. Shortly after, Steve began his career as a Surgeon and Owner at Eastern Kentucky Bone and Joint Surgery in Pikeville, Kentucky in 1988, where he served as the Chief of Surgery from 1992 to 2002. Recently, in 2020, Steve retired from his profession as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, but continues to stay involved amongst the community of medicine and surgery, holding the position as Diplomat for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. 

Steve is married to his wife Maria, and has 3 kids, Tyler, Evin, and Eric.
